Business Travel Approval System
July 14, 2025
About the project
Business Travel Approval System is a two-sided workflow app connecting employees with HR and managers for international business trips. When an employee needs to travel abroad for work, they submit a request through the system with the trip dates, destination country, and the company/partner they’re meeting. HR and the relevant manager are notified by email that a new request is waiting, and can log into their own dashboard to review and approve or reject it.
Roles
- Employee — submits travel requests (dates, destination country, company being visited) and tracks their status
- HR / Manager — receives an email notification for every new request, logs into a dedicated dashboard, and approves or rejects pending requests
Features
- Role-based accounts for employees and HR/managers, each with their own dashboard and permitted actions
- Travel request form capturing trip dates, destination country, and the company/contact being visited
- Automatic email notifications to HR and managers when a new request comes in
- Approve/reject workflow with request status tracking
Tech stack
Backend: ASP.NET Core Web API, Entity Framework Core, email/SMTP integration for notifications.
Frontend: Vue, with a component library for building the two distinct role-based dashboards.
What I learned
This project was my first time building a real approval workflow spanning two different user roles with distinct permissions and views. It gave me practical experience designing a relational schema around requests and their status transitions, wiring up automated email notifications, and building an EF Core + ASP.NET Core API consumed by a role-aware Vue frontend.
